What's Tonka Beans?
Tonka Beans creates, aggregates and distributes money-related information to and for women. We produce free video programs and host a social networking web site to help simplify investing and personal money management for women of all backgrounds.
Our Goal
Raise women’s interest, knowledge of and confidence in personal money management matters to make investing a priority.
Our Mission
Simplify investing and money-related information to make it compelling and relevant for women of all backgrounds.
Our Difference
We differentiate ourselves on two fronts:
We simplify – More than ever, the Internet is facilitating the dissemination of vast amounts of financial information and investing expertise. That’s part of the issue. The volume is daunting. The complexity intimidating. The lack of appeal and relevance commonplace. Tonka Beans addresses these issues head-on with the objective to "simplify”.
We make it relevant – By providing women with a safe place to share ideas and concerns, we can connect with your collective mindset, personal priorities and changing views to understand what you want addressed and how. Tonka Beans addresses current and relevant investing issues in a matter and context women can relate to.
What’s Behind the Name
Tonka beans are said to be "feminine," equated to the planet Venus and water. They're believed to bring their carriers prosperity, good fortune and even luck in matters of love.
They originate from the Kumaru tree in South America and are often used as a substitute for almonds or an alternative to vanilla. Their essential oil is distilled to make perfume and soap and can also be found in potpourris.
Tonka beans are also the centerpiece of a forest conservation effort in Venezuela's Caura river basin where they're harvested by the local Indian communities and supplied to a large Swiss fragrance and flavor company.
